Room 19's PPPs

Charlotte shares her PP with her family.
Sometimes every PPP station was full as people meticulously told their parents about their progress and their next steps.

Mia shared her PPP with his Mum and Dad.

Monique shared her PPP with her parents.

Cooper shared his PPP with his Mum.

Lauren shared her PPP with her Mum and Dad.

Indie visits the school

Aiden's new puppy, Indie, came to school.  He wore his smart black uniform for the occasion, while Aiden wore our usual blue Cockle Bay colours.

Art appreciation

Mrs Bear sometimes feels like Edvard Munch's scream, just like this student!
We spent an hour looking at all the visual art.  We enjoyed treating the hall like a real art gallery and discussing each art genre in turn.  When we had viewed all the art, we chose our favourite piece and made some notes so we could write about it in detail back in the classroom.

Owls on display at the Art Expo

We collected Autumn leaves and smooth, heavy river stones to decorate the owls stand at the Art Expo.  We visited them and were delighted to see them glowing quietly in the corner of the hall amidst the vibrant school art.

Owls come to life

Our clay owls had to dry out for three weeks before they were ready to go in the kiln.  After they had been fired and cooled down, we painted them with white undercoat.

When the undercoat was dry, we started to paint on feathers.  However some people decided they wanted to paint the owls gold instead so that they looked more like Henry Moore's bronze sculptures.  We had a vote, and it was extremely close:  15 for bronze spray paint and 12 for painted feathers.  Twelve people were disappointed at the time, but everyone was amazed when they saw the bronze owls, glowing softly in the watery winter sun on Monday morning,

Visual Art with our Buddy Class

We are learning about Andy Warhol as part of Art Week.  Andy's Mum first taught him to draw when he was ill in bed.  Much later, when he was a commercial artist, he made films, sculptures, paintings and books about art.  He is most famous for painting Pop Art.  He painted pictures of everyday things like tins of soup, Coca Cola bottles, hamburgers and vacuum cleaners.
We met our buddy class in Room 26 and decided to paint pictures in the Andy Warhol style.  In Art Week One we painted four squares in different colours using dye, with white wax crayon separating each block of colour.  In Art Week Two was traced four outlines of our hands, one in each square, and then coloured them using pastels.  There was a pattern to the colours we chose: each hand was the same colour as the diagonal square.  On Friday we will add a black handprint to complete our art work.
We enjoyed doing art work with our buddies and helping them trace around their hands.  Afterwards we relaxed with some books - we enjoyed reading them to our buddies, even though they were five year old books.  Some people found one or two favourites they could remember from Year One!

StarDome

'Wow' I whispered when I walked into StarDome. We all walked into the meeting room to get some lunch.  We were getting so excited.  Mrs Bear and Mrs Wulff told us we couldn't spill a crumb! But oh no, it wasn't us it was Mrs Bear who spilt a crumb, but she picked it up and put it in the bin. Then we needed to go to the toilet!  Finally we went to put our bags in a little cage. We had buddies and shared one of our bags to put both of our drink bottles and lunchboxes in. Next we went into a big room called the space room and we had a man called Tim to help us and tell us about space. Then we looked at all the things and then we watched a little movie and learnt about things.  Then we went back to school.

StarDome

First we got on the bus and went to StarDome and went to the point of where we had to go to get in. When we were in the people that own the place of Stardome said, "Come with me and I have a good idea for you to eat your food." So we had a munch on some lunch and went to the toilets.  The girls went in the toilet first. Then we went to the point to see a movie that was about space and the sky. After that we went to have a look at the space things.  Next we went to see another movie about it.

Amazing Stardome

When we got on to the bus Mrs Bridget Bear and Mrs Wulff shouted, "Be quiet everybody." Then we went to the StarDome and when we got there we had to wait a minute to get into the space room and then we got a seat.  Tim showed us how long it takes for the Earth to get right around the sun. Then we me, Sam and Harmony did a role play.  I was the moon, Harmony was the sun and Sam was the Earth.  When we came back everybody was teasing me, Sam and Harmony. We felt sad that we got teased.  Then finally we went to the planetarium and watched a movie and looked at the Jupiter and Mars and Sirius.

StarDome

On Wednesday we went to Stardome for a trip.  When we got on the bus we had to at the back because Room 18 had to go in the front.  When we got there  I was excited because we could learn different things about space.  When we got inside we had morning  tea.  Next we all had to go to the toilet.  Yay!  Then we could go in the space room and learn all about space.  Then we had a look around with a group of 7.  I had Jayden's mum.  She was funny.  Last we went in the movies on the roof.  There were 1000 seats.  They were a little back.  Finally we went back to Cockle Bay School.

Tilt

Whoosh the screen shone with colours into my eyes. The man who was showing us around was called Tim.  The movie Tilt told you that the Earth is tilted, that's probably why it's called Tilt. In the space room I got to be the Earth when Tim asked for three helpers to be the sun, the moon and Earth.
