Moon Buggy Making

Today I made a mobilo Moon Buggy.  First I put two square blocks sideways and one block up,  then a flat block and two sideways, then a triangle tip and lastly two pairs of wheels.   I placed it in the box and took a picture of the Moon buggy. Click!! The picture was taken. This is what it looks like.
Look and enjoy.

Top Trumps Tournament

Yay! I won this game.  It was 27 to 3.  We had a strong lead at the start but as soon as we lost by 0 to 30, we lost the lead.  Oh no! We went through nine hard Top Trump stations.  At the end our score was 116.  We didn't win but we got this cool PRINCE OF PERSIA THE SAND OF TIME Top Trumps game. My team was Jayden, Sarah,  Oliver  and me.

Moon buggy

This is a really awesome moon buggy. It has a double roof so heaps of people can sit on it.  Space people use a moon buggy so they can drive on the moon.

Moon Buggy Madness

Vroom ,vroom!  The Moon buggy is going to the Moon dome.  It is the best Moon buggy that's been on the Moon. I t can carry Moon rocks, so if a Moon rock is in the way, it can put it by the side so it can get through.

CBS Cross Country

The Year 3 boys warm up.

Getting organised for our race.

The Year 3 girls are off - here they are at the first bend.

Tired place getters at the end of the race.
Torrence and Lauren are neck and neck in the final stretch.
Sam shows his determination to win on the final stretch.
Blayke finishes strongly.
Zeb is watching the finish line getting closer!
Magnus isn't letting a little mud stop him.
And speaking of mud . . .

Mrs Bear promised us warm bubbly spa pools when we got back but . . . this is what we actually got!

It was relaxing having a Legofest in our warm, dry clothes after we had got cleaned up.

Earth Art

We painted polystyrene balls to look like the planets of the solar system.

You can see the finished solar system with its pumpkin sun on week 5's CBS news by clicking on this link or visiting the Cockle Bay Facebook page:

Sarah copied the countries for her globe from the classroom globe.
Nissi and Magnus copied their countries from an ipad image.
Next we painted the geosphere green.  When it was dry we painted the oceans blue.  We made an atmosphere on the back with blue sky and cotton wool clouds.

Space station drinks

Mia holds up her space station drink.
We are learning about space.  We watched a video on Camp Google about space stations and then we made our own water pouch.  The water was securely sealed inside the bag.  Then we clamped the straw with a peg so that the water didn't work its way up the straw and start floating about in big globules in the zero gravity of our Room 19 Space Station.

Student voting

On Wednesday we had assembly practice, music and PE!  Help, we couldn't fit in all our programme so everyone could vote for their two favourites - Maths and Handwriting both got the majority of the votes.

Rainbow Maths

Samantha and Lauren have graduated from Rainbow Maths with flying colours.  Great work.

Canadian Maths

Canadian fudge from Vancouver BUT not enough to go round!
Charlotte and Monique choose their two halves.
We are doing fractions so we solved the problem right away - we cut each piece in half.  Now we had 30 halves.
The whole class worked out the problem on the whiteboard so we knew it was fair.
When Sophie came back from Canada, she brought a box of delicious fudge for us to share.  This is how we applied out Maths knowledge to make sure everyone had a fair share.  Thanks, Sophie!

Moon buggies

Callum made a moon buggy and Greah took the photo shoot.

Shadows

Greah, Sarah and Oliver's shadows
Zeb, Jayden and Magnus's shadows.

Our buddy chalked around our shadow so we could compare it throughout the day.

Pirate Maths

No, we are not pledging allegiance to Captain Mia.  We are showing how high one metre is on our bodies.

Captain Nissi used piratey footsteps to find the treasure.

Popcorn Friday transforms into Paper Glider Friday

Everyone enjoyed having Paper Glider Friday instead of Popcorn Friday for a change.  Everyone made a paper with special jet fighter paper and then measure how far they had flown with the metre rulers.

Wet Winter Weather Strikes Gold

The weather forecast predicts that Week 3 will be a very wet week.  This is not stopping Room 19 however.  Students are using the time in the classroom at Wet Play to collaborate in a myriad of ways: co-operating with others to build a Lego city, making rockets for our space wall, constructing Mobilo moon rovers for our Moon photoshop, practising their sketching skills by drawing portraits of classmates or relaxing with a good book cuddled up to (aptly named) Mr Cuddles in the class library.
This brings us to Friday's Challenge!  Usually we have Popcorn Friday if everyone has completed their homework tasks - but not this week.  This week the rewards  will be BIGGER . . . BETTER . . . ALTOGETHER MORE AWESOME.  Watch this space . . .

The Amazing Lego Hotel

The amazing Lego Hotel was built by Callum, Oliver and Jayden.  We have worked on it and this was how much we built.  Once it was finished, I was very impressed.   I even built a entire
bedroom and also built the roof.  Oliver joined some of the roof and he built the clock too.  Jayden built a car to go with it and we all did some of the wall. I helped Jayden attach the pirate ship at the
back of the hotel.

The Lego motel

Callum and Oliver and Jayden made a motel and we used Lego. It had a playground and the roof was very hard to make because it kept crashing, so we only did a little bit of it.

Oliver's Lego motel.

Callum and I have made a Lego motel.  it took us one hour to make and we also made some Mobilo vehicles.  Unfortunately the walls kept on falling down.  There is a playground,  a bedroom,  a resting room,  a restaurant and a garage.
