We are learning about Andy Warhol as part of Art Week. Andy's Mum first taught him to draw when he was ill in bed. Much later, when he was a commercial artist, he made films, sculptures, paintings and books about art. He is most famous for painting Pop Art. He painted pictures of everyday things like tins of soup, Coca Cola bottles, hamburgers and vacuum cleaners.
We met our buddy class in Room 26 and decided to paint pictures in the Andy Warhol style. In Art Week One we painted four squares in different colours using dye, with white wax crayon separating each block of colour. In Art Week Two was traced four outlines of our hands, one in each square, and then coloured them using pastels. There was a pattern to the colours we chose: each hand was the same colour as the diagonal square. On Friday we will add a black handprint to complete our art work.
We enjoyed doing art work with our buddies and helping them trace around their hands. Afterwards we relaxed with some books - we enjoyed reading them to our buddies, even though they were five year old books. Some people found one or two favourites they could remember from Year One!

Wow can't wait to see them at the PPP's!
